Team rosters are mostly done outside of the remaining portal players, plus UCLA, officially the most unserious football program of the offseason because they have still not released a 2025 football roster. All ratings and notes are based on current available players for each FBS team (now 136, welcome Delaware & Missouri State!).
I use terms for ratings such as elite, great, good, average, bad, poor and awful as they are much better description than numbers in a lot of instances. I use numbers for calculations, but they are displayed as either these descriptions or simply rankings for readability. With all the data I want to display, it's much easier to read great or #11 than 21.46109. My notes section can sometimes get ugly. This is college football, passion is a huge part of the draw, both the good and the bad. If I'm bashing a team, it's most likely because I lost on them and they are dead to me until proven otherwise
I've built this site to base team talent and returning production based on players on the roster, plus most portals/recruits coming in. I don't have a great way to add a ton of FCS transfers up to FBS, although I try to add them manually if I feel they are important. I will miss a bunch, because this is currently a hobby and not my full time job. If you feel I'm missing someone important, by all means send them to me at admin@puntandrally.com. Analyzing rosters is the building block of my ratings in the offseason.
My Power Rating system is NOT a ranking like the AP or CFP polls. It is a formula based on team talent, returning production, coaching and performance. It does not care if a team is 12-0 or 0-12, it's a measurement of how well they played in those games. If you play better than your opponents of near equal talent, you will win more often than not. And be assured that I like winning bets a lot more than I may hypothetically 'hate' your team. Don't like your rating, play better, or sign better players.
Other than individual player stats, I don't use totals for anything, be it yards, completions, carries, etc... I use advanced statistics for everything team based, as it is a much more accurate representation of how they are playing. If you're wondering why a team that leads the nation in rushing/passing is not even in the top ten of my ratings, that is why. If you're looking for total yards or most yards passing, there are hundreds of sites that will provide that information. I only care how efficient & explosive a team is, or defends.
I welcome any and all feedback. I am not an expert nor do I pretend to be. I don't have any special access to teams, coaches or CFB media. I'm simply a CFB fanatic that loves this sport as a whole, and enjoys gambling on it. I'm a tech guy that has built this site over many years to be automated enough to not need full time attention, which unfortuately I cannot give. I built this site because I want to build team information based on their rosters, and do my best to rate them as I see them rather than relying on other opinions that tend to be too hopeful for everyone. There are teams that are just going to be ass in any given season, I've never read that about any team in any preview. During the offseason I want to identify those teams as early as I can, or at least note the potential. During the season you bet your ass I'm watching every game I can, making adjustments, tweaks, anything I feel would be helpful to me. I hope the site is helpful or at least intersting to you as well.
